The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, leading the City of Lake Forest to close all city facilities from noon today. The Lake Forest Parks & Recreation classes and programs have also been canceled for the day.
According to a City of Lake Forest Facebook post, the city has reported that heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions are forecast through Saturday morning. Extreme cold temperatures are expected from Sunday through Tuesday.
In another Facebook post by the City of Lake Forest, it was mentioned that the Lake Forest Snow Command is monitoring conditions and will dispatch crews to respond where necessary throughout this weather event. The city has requested motorists to avoid driving.
The city also reminded its residents that after a minimum 2-inch snowfall, parking is not allowed on city-maintained roads until snow has been cleared edge to edge. This information was shared in another post on the City of Lake Forest's Facebook page. Vehicles parked illegally will be subject to towing at the owner's expense.
Residents were advised by the City of Lake Forest via Facebook post to shovel snow following the direction of traffic to make it less likely it will be pushed back into driveways by plows. They were instructed to throw the snow on the right -- "downstream" -- side, which is the right side as you look at the street. Additionally, they were cautioned not to shovel, plow, or blow snow onto the street.
Lake Forest residents can report problems such as a downed tree limb blocking the road using the "Report a Problem" feature in the Lake Forest Now App (downloadable at www.cityoflakeforest.com/LFNow), according to another City of Lake Forest Facebook post. Problems can also be reported via their webpage, www.cityoflakeforest.com/seeclickfix.
