Highland Park has announced the dates for its 2024 Spring Clean-Up program, designed for single-family residential customers. The program, which commences in April, will permit the disposal of oversized items.

According to a Highland Park press release, customers whose regular collection date falls on Monday can expect their clean-up day to be Saturday, April 20. For those with a Tuesday collection date, their clean-up is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. Customers who have their garbage collected on Thursday will have their clean-up day on Saturday, May 4. Finally, for customers whose collection day is Friday, their clean-up day is set for Saturday, May 11.

The city advises residents not to place material out for collection more than one week prior to the scheduled collection day as per the Highland Park press release. All items must be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the designated collection day.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) will handle the pick-up of allowed oversized items. However, according to another Highland Park press release, only one cubic yard of construction material will be accepted. Waste from any do-it-yourself project must be bundled so that it can be easily lifted into the truck by one person. Carpeting must also be rolled and should not exceed a weight that one person can carry. Notably, waste generated by general contractors will not be accepted.

The same press release states that certain items will not be accepted including white goods, regular garbage, yard waste and debris generated by landscapers or tree trimmers. Also excluded are demolition materials from fences or roofs and exterior building debris as well as rubber tires. LRS will also refuse batteries, oil and household hazardous materials such as paint, pesticides or pool cleaners.

For appliance or white good removals that need scheduling or other inquiries regarding the program, residents are encouraged to contact an LRS service representative at 844-633-3577 or email info@lrsrecycles.com, as per the Highland Park press release. It also suggests that residents can get a head start on their spring cleaning by contacting LRS for a quote for a single bulk item each week.
