House Bill 5345 – a Bill to Remove the Tip Incentive Pay Structure was passed by Illinois House Democrats this week. Rep. McLaughlin took to the floor to discuss the harmful ramifications this bill will cause.
During a dinner in Springfield this week, Rep. McLaughlin and some of his fellow Representatives encountered servers who were vehemently against the bill. Rep. McLaughlin expressed the sentiment of the serving personnel, businesses, and patrons affected by the bill by stating, "Serving Personnel do not want this. The Businesses do not want this and the Patrons whose bills will now increase certainly don’t want this."
In response to the passing of HB5345, an unknown source criticized the decision with the statement, "Another AWFUL Springfield Idea. AlwaysWrongFailingUnacceptableLunacy." Rep. McLaughlin also used the hashtag #dontmesswithourtips to emphasize the impact of the bill on tipping practices.
