Brad Schneider, representing the 10th District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives, said that local governance and attentive listening are more impactful on everyday life than federal actions. Schneider was on a recent episode of the Lake Forest podcast.
"What the present United States does, whether it's Joe Biden, Donald Trump, George Washington, John Adams, it doesn't matter, has less impact on our everyday lives than the mayors and village presidents in our towns are doing every single day," said Schneider on the Lake Forest podcast. "Now, what federal government does is important, not saying it's not important, it's exceedingly important. But people think that's all that matters. It's those local elections that matter every bit as much. You know, some people are more involved.”
“Second thing is people listening to each other rather than trying to scream over each other,” said Schneider. “I listen to everybody; every time someone raises their hand, I don't ask them if they're my friend or on my phone, I call on them. Sometimes that comes to bite me, but more often than not, it doesn't end as they talk. They may want to just talk for ten minutes, they've got a speech prepared and I listen to them."
