Jim Carris, Illinois 10th District Republican Candidate, said he paid his way through college and law school by working various jobs, including at a miniature golf course where he won multiple championships and always found support from the owners, whenever he needed work. Carris was on a recent episode of the Lake Forest podcast.
"Throughout college and law school, I paid my own way," said Carris on the Lake Forest podcast. "I worked a variety of different jobs, from construction to cutting grass to painting houses. As a matter of fact, one of my first jobs was at the miniature golf course on Milwaukee Road.
“I won the club championship, if you will, the putt-putt club championship here on Milwaukee Road,” said Carris. “Then I went to Morton Grove, played the next champion, and beat him two years in a row. So that was bragging rights for Gus. Gus has since passed, but he was a wonderful man, anytime I needed work, money for school, expenses, or whatever, I would go to Gus and say, 'Gus, do you have any work for me?'"
