The Lake County Division of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on June 26 to share the preferred alternative design for the Old McHenry Crossing Project Study, feedback received, the results of environmental analyses, and more. The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church Gymnasium, 24500 N. Old McHenry Road, Hawthorn Woods.
According to a Lake County press release, the study's purpose was to improve traffic operations, safety, and connectivity for motorists, bikers, and pedestrians within and surrounding the Old McHenry Road and Canadian National (CN) Railroad area. The area along Quentin Road in Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich, Kildeer, and unincorporated Forest Lake is included in the study.
The consultant team and Lake County Division of Transportation representatives will be on hand to address questions and hear input. The event will be accessible to individuals with disabilities.
According to the press release, four highly traveled regional highways converge in this area. Frequent trains and three closely spaced Old McHenry Road intersections have led to high traffic volumes and delays. Nearly 370 crashes have occurred in this area over the last five years with approximately 25,000 vehicles passing through the corridor daily.
Multiple years of planning, coordination, and design will be needed before construction can begin. Sign up for project updates at omxproject.com
