Lake County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Wauconda man on August 28 after he drove intoxicated, caused a traffic crash, and fled the scene on foot in Long Grove. Deputies responded to Route 22 and Old McHenry Road for a traffic crash at approximately 3:25 p.m.
According to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, the 911 caller said the man who rear-ended his car fled on foot. The caller provided a description of the man to 911 dispatchers, who relayed that information to responding deputies.
Sheriff's Deputy Gauer and K9 Axel responded to the scene. The news release stated that K9 Axel obtained the man's scent and tracked him almost two miles into Heron Creek Forest Preserve. Lake County Forest Preserve Rangers were informed. A sheriff's deputy and forest preserve ranger located the suspect next to a forest preserve trail.
The Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Yiyari C. Salvador, 26, of the 200 block of Marlene Court, Wauconda. He was found under the influence of alcohol. Salvador was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a traffic crash, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and processed. His next court date is on September 25.
