The 2024 Illinois fall trout season will open Saturday, Oct. 19 at 60 ponds, lakes, and streams throughout the state.
"Fishing is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family and friends," said Colleen Callahan, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). "We are pleased to offer this opportunity for anglers to experience the thrill of catching trout in our state's waters."
To participate in the trout season, anglers must have a valid fishing license and an inland trout stamp. Licenses and stamps can be purchased online or from various vendors across Illinois.
"We encourage everyone to get out and take advantage of this popular fall tradition," added Callahan. "Our staff works hard to stock these locations with quality fish so that anglers can have a successful and enjoyable experience."
The IDNR stocks more than 80,000 rainbow trout each year for the fall season. These fish are sourced from hatcheries in Illinois and other states.
