On September 26, 2024, we at the Lake County Gazette submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Lake County, Illinois. The request sought detailed records of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024.

The requested information included the vendor's name, transaction date, transaction description, and the amount paid. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 the most extensive multi-year program, Rebuild Illinois, aimed at improving and repairing all modes of transportation. Governor JB Pritzker stated that over $40 billion would be invested over six years into better roads and bridges, modernized transit and aviation systems, as well as expanded and faster passenger rail service.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois program is planning or implementing ten major projects in Chicago. The program is investing $396 million in these projects to improve safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three of these projects are scheduled for completion in 2024.

In addition to this investment in Chicago’s infrastructure, seven projects worth $107 million are slated for completion in Kane County under the Rebuild Illinois program. In central Cook County alone, ten projects totaling an investment of $220 million will construct new roads and bridges.

We will continue monitoring these developments closely and keep the public informed about the progress and impact of these significant infrastructure investments.
