A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Lake Forest on October 28, 2024. The request, made by us at the Lake County Gazette, sought detailed information regarding all unpaid parking violations in the city.
In our request, we asked for a comprehensive list of all current unpaid parking violations. This includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due from each offender.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
