Illinois' 10th Congressional District candidate: 'Here’s to keeping up the fight to make our country a better place'

Illinois' 10th Congressional District candidate Jim Carris expressed gratitude to his supporters in a Facebook post dated November 6. He said, "To the incredible Carris campaign team and all those who supported us: thank you for your dedication, passion, and hard work in our efforts."

"To the incredible Carris campaign team and all those who supported us: thank you for your dedication, passion, and hard work in our efforts to bring Independence, Compassion and Common Sense back to our government," said Carris, according to Facebook. "Every parade, meet and greet, late night, pizza eaten, sign placed, every call, and every idea shared—you've made this journey unforgettable and we've made a difference! I'm so grateful to have worked with such great patriots and friends. Here's to keeping up the fight to make our country a better place for our kids and future generations."

Carris, a Republican, contested the state's tenth congressional district seat against incumbent Democrat Brad Schneider in the general election held on November 5. Official results have yet to be released by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. However, according to Ballotpedia's webpage for Carris’ campaign, he received 116,398 votes, representing 40% of the total votes cast. In contrast, Schneider garnered 174,687 votes or 60%. A write-in candidate, Joseph Severino, reportedly received no votes.

According to his campaign website, Carris’ platform focused on economic investment, supporting local police departments with funding and empowerment, strengthening national security, and fostering collaboration between parents and school districts to enhance student outcomes. The website also highlights his support for the Second Amendment and advocates for a balanced approach to oversight and accountability. Additionally, Carris called for securing the border and ending catch-and-release policies.

The Tenth District seat is currently occupied by Democrat U.S. Representative Brad Schneider. The district includes several municipalities within Lake County such as Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Grayslake, Mundelein, Vernon Hills, Waukegan, Highland Park, North Chicago, Park City, Lake Forest, Gurnee, Zion, Libertyville and Round Lake. It also encompasses communities in Cook County like Winnetka, Glencoe, Kenilworth Northbrook and Wheeling as well as Spring Grove Richmond Hebron Wonder Lake and Johnsburg in McHenry County.

Carris is a notable figure in the local business community and has been a longtime resident of Lake County. His campaign website emphasizes his extensive business background over political experience. "Jim has spent his life in business not politics practicing law running his own company and as a corporate leader," states a message on his campaign site.

Currently serving as Managing Principal Executive Managing Director and Market Leader at Colliers International Carris is an accomplished attorney. He is also the son of an immigrant whose father left Greece seeking better opportunities. Throughout his life Carris financed his education through various jobs ranging from house painting construction work dishwashing to bartending showcasing a strong work ethic.
