As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Highland Park. The request, made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, seeks information about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023 till today's date.
The specific fields requested for each permit include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where work is being done and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we have also requested for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits as well.
We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we hope that our request will be granted without any fees.
The Lake County Gazette remains committed to serving its readers with reliable information about local government activities. We look forward to receiving this information from the City of Highland Park so that we can continue our mission of providing comprehensive news coverage.
