FOIA Request to City of Lake Forest Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The request, sent to the City of Lake Forest in Illinois, seeks detailed information about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present day. Specifically, we are interested in obtaining data on the type of permit issued, the date it was granted, the fee paid by the requester, the address associated with the permit, and the name of the contractor involved.
In addition to this information about newly issued permits, we have also requested data regarding all currently active residential and commercial building permits within the city. This includes their current status as well as details similar to those sought for new permits.
We believe that access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readership. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we hope that our request will be met favorably and that any fees associated with accessing these records will be waived.
Should there be any questions or concerns regarding our request, we are more than willing to discuss them further.
