The Village of Gurnee has announced the promotion of two members from its Fire Department and one from its Police Department. These individuals were sworn into their new roles during the Village Board meeting on November 11.

According to a newsletter from the Village of Gurnee, Lt. Jim Gramer has been promoted to Battalion Chief, recognizing his years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence. To fill the vacancy left by Gramer's promotion, Firefighter Eric Leibert has been elevated to the position of lieutenant. The newsletter highlights Leibert's passion, hard work, and drive as key factors in his promotion.

The newsletter also reports that Patrick Murray of the Gurnee Police Department has been promoted to sergeant. Murray brings over 20 years of police service experience in Gurnee and has served in various capacities including field training officer and crisis intervention officer. He is noted for founding the annual Cops and Bobbers fishing derby in collaboration with the Gurnee Park District. His dedication to community service has earned him several accolades such as the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists 100 Career DUI Award, two lifesaving awards, and recognition as the 2018 Gurnee Police Officer of the Year. In 2024, he achieved national accreditation through the Accreditation Committee for Traffic Accident Reconstruction.

The Village of Gurnee website states that its Fire Department serves approximately 60,000 residents across a 30-square-mile area, with a daytime population exceeding 150,000. This coverage includes areas within both the Village and Warren-Waukegan Fire Protection District as well as Park City, Illinois. The department operates around-the-clock fire and rescue services with all firefighters required to be licensed paramedics.

Additionally, according to the Village website, the Gurnee Police Department offers continuous services focused on community-oriented policing and problem-solving strategies. Their efforts include traffic enforcement, crime prevention initiatives like neighborhood watch programs, gang prevention measures, and youth assistance programs. The communications center provides enhanced 911 services available at all times for residents.
