Illinois celebrates Statehood Day marking its admission to the Union

On December 3, 1818, Illinois officially joined the United States as the 21st state. Since its admission to the union, Illinois has played a significant role in the Midwest as a center of innovation and economic opportunity. Today marks Statehood Day for Illinois.
