FOIA Request to Winthrop Harbor Police Department Regarding Arrest Records from 2018 to Present on December 12, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Lake County Gazette have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Winthrop Harbor Police Department.
The request, sent on December 12, 2024, asks for a list of all arrests made by the department from January 1, 2018 till the present date. The requested information includes fields such as arrestee name, arrest date, arrestee gender, arrestee race, arrestee's date of birth and crime committed.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
