The Waukegan City Council has approved a contract for the repaving of three city-owned parking lots. The agreement, finalized on January 21 with Leopardo Companies, is valued at an amount not to exceed $908,632.
According to the council's agenda packet for its January 21 meeting, the motion includes paving the City Hall parking lot, Parking Lot E (Sheridan), and a section of a parking lot at Public Works. A staff report indicated that these parking lots are in poor condition and are used daily. The purchase was facilitated through Sourcewell, a government purchasing cooperative.
The city's Planning & Zoning Department provided a landscape requirement analysis for the parking lots, as noted in the agenda. The City Hall lot requires the planting of eight additional trees. The recommendation suggests placing them in alternative locations to ensure unobstructed views for public safety personnel entering their vehicles. Parking Lot E necessitates the installation of a landscaped island by the city. Meanwhile, the Public Works property far exceeds landscaping requirements.
The work order for renovating the City Hall parking lot indicates a total cost of $154,732. Work at Parking Lot E is projected to cost $53,947. Renovations at the Public Works parking lot are expected to be more extensive and costly, with an estimated total of $699,952.
According to the Sourcewell contract attached to the agenda, Leopardo Companies is based in Chicago.
