On January 28, 2025, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Miller Township Community Consolidated School District by us at the Lake County Gazette. The request pertains to copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain specific keywords.
The requested records should contain references to "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study." As a news organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver for this information as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We await the response from the Miller Township Community Consolidated School District regarding this request.
According to the Illinois Report Card, the average state teacher salary in 2023 was $73,916, while the state average administrative salary was $116,908. The student-to-administrative ratio stands at an average of 141:1, with a student-to-teacher ratio averaging at 17:1. It's also noteworthy that 58% of teachers in Illinois possess a master's degree or higher.
