State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) today reminded local residents that they still have a chance to participate in Illinois history by voting for a new state flag or to maintain the current one that has represented Illinois since 1915.

Rep. Weber serves on the Illinois Flag Commission, which has been tasked with developing new state flag designs and making recommendations to the General Assembly on whether the current state flag should be replaced.

“This truly is an historic task. Our current flag has represented Illinois for more than 100 years. We can all have a say on whether it will continue to represent Illinois for the next hundred years or more!” Rep. Weber said.

The Commission has narrowed down the flag designs to 10 finalists that Illinois residents can choose from, including Illinois’ current flag. The new designs vary from traditional to more imaginative choices.

“It is truly an honor to serve on the Flag Commission and to be a part of this process, but the best news is that everyone can participate! You just need to go [to] the website and vote for your favorite,” said Rep. Weber.

View the top 10 finalist flag designs and vote for your favorite here. You can vote once a day, and voting is open until February 14.
