Denver Nuggets dropped by Orchard Park Academy last week to honor technology teacher Melissa "Coach" Garcia, who was the February winner of the MVT Award - Most Valuable Teacher.

Everyone's favorite mascot, Rocky, was on hand to celebrate Coach Garcia, who received a $2000 classroom grant along with a celebration at the February 12th game against the Portland Trailblazers. Coach Garcia is known for excellence in education, having coached drone soccer teams to national and international championships.

The Nuggets and the NBA sponsor the Most Valuable Teacher award to recognize outstanding educators who give back to the lives of students across Colorado. The MVT program encourages teachers and school administrators to continually strive for excellence and leadership in their schools by offering a unique experience.

“It feels great,” said Garcia, noting that helping her students every day is a reward in itself. “Keep working hard,” is her advice to other teachers. “It’s great to see the kids smiling and know what we do really matters. ”

Principal Josh White was thrilled that the Nuggets chose to honor Garcia and praised her as someone “who goes above and beyond for her students. ”
