District 64 Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins announced that schools will remain open on Wednesday, February 12, despite incoming winter weather conditions.
"Safety is always our top priority," said Dr. Collins in a message to District 64 families. He emphasized that parents have the option to keep their children home for safety reasons during snow and cold days. Parents choosing this option are urged to notify the school office.
Dr. Collins explained the decision-making process involved in determining whether to keep schools open amid severe weather events. "These decisions are hard to make," he said, noting that information from the National Weather Service and consultations with area superintendents play a crucial role.
Schools will operate on normal schedules but all after-school activities and meetings, including Beyond the Bell, are canceled for tomorrow.
Parents are advised that if inclement weather occurs in the afternoon, transportation may be slower than usual.
