Highland Park prepares for upcoming winter storm

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the area, with the first significant snowfall expected from Wednesday, February 12 to Thursday, February 13. Total snow accumulations are anticipated to be between 3 and 6 inches, with snowfall rates potentially reaching 1 inch per hour. Hazardous conditions, including slippery and slushy roads, may develop rapidly and are likely to impact the Wednesday evening commute.

Residents are advised to travel only if necessary and to drive with caution, remaining alert for snow plows and crews working to clear the snow. Traffic conditions throughout Lake County can be monitored online at Lake County Passage.

The Highland Park Senior Center facility will be closed for in-person business on Wednesday, February 12 out of an abundance of caution and consideration for member safety. All scheduled activities are canceled except for the News & Views discussion group, which will convene via Zoom. Staff will remain available for general business by phone at 847-432-4110 during regular busines s hours.

The City is actively monitoring weather conditions throughout the day, with City Public Works crews prepared for snow removal operations. Public Works can be reached at 847-432-0807; after-hours concerns should be reported to the public safety non-emergency line at 847-432-7730. For emergencies, dial 911.

In case of a power outage, reports may be made via comed.com/outage, through the ComEd app, or by calling1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661). If a power outage necessitates activation of the City's warming centers, information will be posted on social media and at cityhpil.com/warmingcenters.
