An alert from a FLOCK license plate reader near Greenwood Avenue and Sheridan Road in Waukegan resulted in the arrest of a North Chicago man. The Chevrolet Impala he was driving was linked to a home invasion law enforcement alert.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office news release, the investigation revealed that the vehicle's registered owner, Alantae E. Cole, 35, of the 1200 block of Jackson Street, North Chicago, had multiple outstanding warrants. These included domestic battery, driving under the influence (DUI), fleeing and eluding, violating an order of protection, and obstructing identification.
The news release further said that deputies found the Chevrolet leaving a nearby gas station. Cole was identified as the driver. The suspect refused to pull over during an attempted traffic stop and led deputies on a pursuit through multiple streets in Waukegan. He turned from southbound Sheridan Road onto eastbound Keith Avenue before entering Circle Court, where he reached a dead end. The suspect fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies.
According to the news release, after reviewing the facts and circumstances of the case, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office approved charges including two counts of aggravated fleeing to elude, attempted possession of cocaine, DUI-Alcohol, and numerous traffic violations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
