The Buffalo Grove Police Department has introduced a Police Transparency section on the village website, accessible at vbg.or/pdtransparency. This section aims to provide the public with straightforward access to data regarding police operations and service calls.
"By incorporating the latest technology into our operations, we aim to make information more accessible and foster trust with the community," said Police Chief Brian Budds. "This new initiative reflects our commitment to transparency and our ongoing efforts to ensure that citizens and the media are informed and engaged with the work we do."
According to a news release from the Buffalo Grove Police Department, the transparency page includes a dynamic incident map powered by ArcGIS. This feature allows residents to view selected calls for service starting from January 1. The map provides an up-to-date visual representation of activity throughout the village and links to a weekly police blotter, ensuring that both the public and media remain informed about recent police incidents, arrests, and more.
The news release also states that this transparency page is part of broader efforts by the Buffalo Grove Police Department to offer open access to various resources. It includes links to information such as crime trends and a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) portal.
The department emphasized its dedication to building strong, transparent relationships with the community by utilizing technological advancements to support effective policing and open communication.
