The city of Lake Forest has provided updates on the Deerpath Streetscape Project, highlighting the completion of a 12-inch PVC water main installation and detailing upcoming system connection work. This announcement was made in a news post dated February 20, 2025.

According to the city, the project involved installing a 12-inch PVC water main from Bank Lane to Western Avenue during the week of February 17. For the following week, crews are scheduled to connect water services between Oakwood and Green Bay Road. Eastbound Deerpath Road remains open with safety measures in place, and 15-minute parking spots are available in the central business district.

The Deerpath Streetscape Project aims to enhance pedestrian safety, renew infrastructure, and beautify the area. The project will replace a century-old water main, improve sidewalks, and repave sections of Deerpath Road. Phase 1 of the project includes water main replacement and is scheduled from mid-January to late April 2025, with one-way eastbound traffic and no parking along the project area. Phase 2 involves streetscape enhancements and is set for May to October 2025; during this phase, Deerpath Road will be closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians between Oakwood Avenue and Western Avenue.

The planning for the Deerpath Streetscape Project began in 2016 with preliminary discussions. In 2019, the City Manager's Advisory Committee was established to ensure community involvement by bringing together representatives from various interest groups to guide the project's direction. The final design closely follows the committee's recommendations, aiming to enhance both functionality and appearance. In 2023, Lake Forest secured an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) grant to support part of the project.

The city of Lake Forest, under the leadership of Mayor Dr. Stanford “Randy” Tack, has outlined a strategic plan focusing on fiscal stewardship, infrastructure, public safety, community well-being, and business vitality.
