Fourth and fifth-grade students at West Elementary participated in a Black History Month Bee held in the school library on Thursday afternoon. After competing in classroom trivia contests, top teams from each grade advanced to the final round to compete for prizes and the title of champions.
"Our scholars have been preparing all month learning about notable figures and events in Black history," said Principal Melissa Romero. "This event is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase what they''ve learned and celebrate the contributions of African Americans throughout history. "
The atmosphere was charged with excitement as students answered questions covering a range of topics, including civil rights leaders, inventors, artists, and historical milestones.
"I''m so proud of our students,''" said fifth-grade teacher Mr. Jamal Carter. "They''ve shown tremendous enthusiasm and dedication in studying this important subject matter. "
Parents and staff members attended to support the participants, cheering on their efforts.
"It''s inspiring to see these young minds at work," remarked parent volunteer Lisa Nguyen. "Events like this foster a love for learning and promote cultural awareness among our children. "
The winning team received medals and certificates recognizing their achievement, while all participants were commended for their hard work and participation.
