Lake Forest Schools have announced that students from District 67 attended a special assembly featuring Liz Hara from Sesame Street. This announcement was made through a press release.
According to Lake Forest Schools, the assembly was made possible by a grant from the Spirit of 67 Foundation. Hara visited Cherokee, Sheridan, and Everett schools, where she introduced students to puppetry, showed behind-the-scenes clips, and demonstrated how Muppets are brought to life. Students also engaged in an interactive experience to practice puppetry themselves.
Liz Hara is recognized as a Los Angeles-based writer, builder, and puppeteer with experience in theatrical and film productions such as Avenue Q, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, and The Lion King. According to her LinkedIn profile, she has contributed to Sesame Street as both a writer and puppet wrangler, earning Emmy Awards for Best Costume Design in 2015 and Outstanding Writing in 2018.
The Spirit of 67 Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1985 dedicated to funding educational enrichment in Lake Forest School District 67. It supports Cherokee, Everett, Sheridan Elementary Schools, and Deer Path Middle School by raising funds through donations and events to provide educational opportunities beyond standard school funding. Each year, staff, students, and community members submit grant applications reviewed and awarded in April. Since its founding, the Spirit of 67 has funded nearly 800 grants totaling over $6.5 million to enhance student experiences across various disciplines.
Lake Forest Elementary School District 67 serves approximately 1,600 students from Pre-K through grade eight. The district includes three elementary schools—Cherokee Elementary (K-4), Everett Elementary (K-4), Sheridan Elementary (Pre-K-4)—and Deer Path Middle School (5-8). Known for its innovative instructional practices, District 67 emphasizes inclusive education and personalized learning experiences supporting academic development within a dynamic learning environment.
