Mrs. Gerber’s English 4 students engaged in an analysis of the documentary He Named Me Malala. As part of their study on persuasive appeals—ethos, pathos, and logos—students have been examining how filmmakers use cinematography to create compelling arguments, comparing these techniques to those found in written speeches on the same topic.
Through discussion and critical analysis, students identify the differences between visual storytelling and written rhetoric. By exploring how emotional appeals, credibility, and logical reasoning are conveyed through film versus text, students gain a deeper understanding of how to craft persuasive arguments in their own writing.
“This activity not only enhances students’ analytical skills but also encourages them to think critically about the power of storytelling in different media,” Mrs. Gerber said.
