At Coal City Middle School, students are participating in a "Leave the technology behind" exploratory unit. This program emphasizes the development of new skills by honing fine motor abilities and encouraging coordination between the brain and hands.

As part of the curriculum, students are learning to sew buttons onto fabric and execute basic stitches. Some have progressed to repairing clothing and bags using these stitching techniques. In addition to sewing, the unit also covers skills such as crocheting, sculpting, painting, and building with plans and designs.

The initiative aims to foster practical skillsets in students through hands-on activities that do not involve modern technology.
