The Lake County Sheriff's Office has announced a collaborative initiative with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police, and other local law enforcement agencies to intensify enforcement during Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April. This announcement was made through a press release on March 31, 2025.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, this partnership involves over 200 local law enforcement agencies and aims to enhance road safety by promoting adherence to laws that prohibit phone use without hands-free devices. The campaign is supported by federal traffic safety funds provided through IDOT. In 2023, distracted driving resulted in 58 fatalities in Illinois, highlighting the ongoing risk it poses.

The Illinois Department of Transportation oversees the state's transportation system with an emphasis on safety and efficient movement. It supports various modes of transport to improve connectivity and economic competitiveness while focusing on infrastructure investment and innovation.

The Illinois State Police is committed to public safety and justice for Illinois residents. The agency maintains high ethical standards and fosters community partnerships, aiming to reduce crime and traffic-related incidents.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is tasked with maintaining order and upholding laws within the community. Its focus includes service through education, communication, partnerships, and enforcement, all aimed at building public trust.
