A new art gallery has emerged on the 2nd floor mezzanine of Westminster High School, showcasing the work of 11 International Baccalaureate Visual Arts students for their Year 2 thesis project. This exhibit is open to the public through April 24th.
The gallery features many interactive pieces, encouraging viewers to touch and explore each artwork. Visitors can experience butterflies landing on a canvas, flip through clothes, mold clay, and even take home a booklet.
The IB students utilized materials such as fabric, wood, and clay to delve into topics including belonging, Artificial Intelligence, mental health, the connection between music and emotions, irony, and reflection through self- portraiture.
Artist Statements accompany each piece, explaining the meaning and motivation behind each body of work. These statements cite the influence of both past and present artists such as Salvador Dalí, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, and Bob Ross.
