Dr. Jeni Gotto, Superintendent of Westminster Public Schools, has announced leadership updates for four schools in the district. In a recent edition of What's Up WPS, it was revealed that Kodi Kelly will assume the role of principal at Sherrelwood Elementary, Doug Kurzawski at Mesa Elementary, and Stephanie Fick at Fairview PK-8. Additionally, Maureen Bangsund has been confirmed as the new principal of Westminster High School. Dr. Gotto expressed particular satisfaction with these appointments, noting that each leader has been promoted from within the district. As experienced assistant principals in Westminster Public Schools, they embody the district's commitment to internal leadership development. "As experienced assistant principals in Westminster Public Schools, they represent the best of our own community and reflect our strong commitment to growing our own leaders," she said. This strategy aligns with the district's values, emphasizing that effective school leaders possess a deep understanding of students, families, and the Competency Based System (CBS). The CBS focuses on personalized learning and content mastery. The selection process for these positions was rigorous, considering multiple qualified candidates. Their success in current roles and dedication to student growth made them standout choices. Dr. Gotto also acknowledged outgoing principals Cindy Davis (Sherrelwood Elementary) and Janelle Stastny (Mesa Elementary), who are retiring this year. She expressed gratitude for their service and advanced notice, which allowed for a smooth transition. Other leadership changes include Fairview Principal Lisa Cyr moving to Head of Transportation and Westy Principal Kiffany Kiewiet transitioning to the WPS Human Resources Department. These appointments signify not just leadership changes but also a continuation of the district's vision for excellence and innovation. Dr. Gotto concluded by expressing confidence in the new leaders' ability to uphold this vision: "We are confident these individuals will lead with integrity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of what makes Westminster Public Schools unique.
