Winfield School has experienced another productive week as students and staff continue to exhibit dedication in classrooms, activities, and clubs. With the rapid progression of the third trimester, daily displays of focus, creativity, and leadership are evident. The track team is preparing for upcoming meets, while the Student Leadership Team supports schoolwide events and service opportunities. From math projects and writing reflections to hands-on science and literature discussions, students are concluding the year with robust activities.
The school invites all families to Showcase Night on Wednesday, April 23 from 6:30–8:00 PM. This year's theme, "Unmasking Our Superpowers," aims to celebrate students' academic growth, creativity, and unique strengths. The event will feature interactive displays, student-led exhibits, performances, raffle prizes, and the return of the Book Fair in the Library. The Student Leadership Team will assist at welcome tables and build excitement with Spirit Week scheduled for April 21–25.

The Scholastic Book Fair begins on Monday, April 21. This fundraiser supports students by building book collections for classroom libraries and the school library. More information about the Book Fair or eWallet setup is available at https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/winfieldprimaryschool1. Online sales run from April 21 to May 4.
In-person preview starts Tuesday, April 22 from 8:30-3:30pm in the Library (closed 11:15am-1pm). Students can shop in-person on Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24 from 8:30-3:30pm (closed 11:15am-1pm). Families are also welcome during Showcase Night on Wednesday, April 23 from 6:30-8pm.
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Winfield School will host its annual Student Showcase Night under the theme "Unmasking Our Superpowers. "
Nominations for the Odell/Showalter Volunteer Award are now being accepted for presentation during the eighth-grade graduation ceremony. Forms are available in both offices with a submission deadline of April 25.
Starting next week, gently used shoe donations will be collected to support Denise Zeman's Kicks for Kids charity. Denise Zeman was a beloved PE teacher at Winfield who passed away in 2017. In her honor, a fundraiser was initiated by retired teachers along with her family to support local families in need through shoe donations.
Donations of any size or type can be brought by students to their classroom teacher or the main office starting Monday, April 21 until Friday, May 30 during the Tiger Run event.
Staff Appreciation Week preparations include writing letters of appreciation to staff members which will be compiled and presented in a special manner. Notes can be dropped off by Sunday, May 4. Additionally, donations for a staff raffle are being accepted until Sunday, May 4. Contact Kelly Kurzer at winfieldpto@winfield34.org with any questions.
Field Day is set for Tuesday, May 27 with a rain backup date on May 29. Volunteers will be needed to help run outdoor games during different sessions.
The Ronald McDonald House pop tab recycling program weigh-in is scheduled for Friday, May 16. The grade level with the most pop tabs by weight will receive a popsicle treat the following week.
Family Fun Night at the Kane County Cougars game is planned for Sunday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m., with order forms forthcoming in next week’s Tiger Prints newsletter.
Monday Park Meet-Ups will take place after school at Founders Park for casual social gatherings featuring picture book reading time followed by free play on the playground. Updates regarding weather cancellations will be posted on the Winfield34 Parents Facebook page.
Due to Prosek's unavailability for fundraisers this year, there will be no plant sale.
The last PTO/WEF meeting of the school year is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7th at 7 p.m., open to all attendees.
In classroom news this week:
- Mrs. Gavin’s class partnered with Mrs. Makki’s afternoon pre-K class for reading sessions as part of their positive behavior reward system.
- Third graders explored technological innovations through collaborative writing responses and studied area and perimeter in math lessons.
- The third/fourth-grade class began reading "Lee's Mountain" while also learning about Amelia Earhart and working on digital comic strip presentations about her life.
- Fourth graders prepared Instagram Character Profiles for Showcase Night while third graders worked on biography projects.
- Fifth-grade students focused on ISA testing and analyzed various types of graphs.
