Ball hockey arrived in Sherrelwood as students engaged with the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Development Team through their Hockey 101 program. This initiative introduces students to hockey by involving them in skills, drills, and friendly competitions.
Ball hockey shares similarities with traditional hockey but is played on foot on a non-ice surface using a plastic ball instead of a puck. The game emphasizes hand-eye coordination, teamwork, and concentration.
In 2025, Sherrelwood Elementary is among approximately 50 schools in the metro area that the Avalanche plans to visit as part of this program.
