Caden Quintana, Brionna Giovengo, and Maria Nunez have been named the Westminster Elks Teachers of the Year for the 2024-25 school year. They were introduced to the Board of Education on Tuesday, April 22.

The evening was filled with emotional tributes and stories highlighting the impact these teachers have had on their students' lives. Each spring, the Westminster Elks invites principals to nominate candidates for this honor. Besides district recognition, the Elks also host a special dinner for them.

Caden Quintana | Mesa Elementary Music Teacher

Principal Janelle Statsny said Quintana brought "a breath of fresh air to Mesa’s Music Department" and "exceeded every expectation that was created when he was hired. " She added, "Caden prioritizes building strong meaningful relationships with students and creates a welcoming, inclusive space where every child is seen and valued. "

Brionna Giovengo | Colorado Stem Academy Math Teacher

Principal Karina Costas commended Giovengo for her ability to address the needs of students at various skill levels. Costas remarked, "She builds strong meaningful relationships with her students and creates a classroom culture where joy, humor and a love of learning are the norm. "

Maria Nunez | Westminster High School Teacher

This is Nunez's final year as a Westy teacher. The announcement of her award before her colleagues a week prior to the board meeting received a standing ovation.

Principal Kiffany Kiewiet said, "She has created an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered," adding "she is the heart and soul of Westminster High School. "

Every year What’s up WPS creates video profiles of the recipients which are shared in April and May. The first profile features Caden Quintana. What’s up WPS cameras captured the moment he was informed about receiving this honor.
