Highland Park police investigate crash linked to Wisconsin ATM robbery

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 5:26 PM, the City of Highland Park Police Department responded to the vicinity of Clavey Rd. & Skokie Valley Rd. following a report of a car crash. Lake Forest Police had advised Highland Park that a vehicle linked to an ATM robbery in Cedarburg, Wisconsin entered Highland Park’s jurisdiction.

The preliminary investigation indicated that three to four individuals fled the crash on foot, although eyewitness reports were conflicting. Highland Park Police and neighboring jurisdictions began searching for those individuals. One individual, determined to be the driver, was taken into custody at approximately 6:13 PM and the investigation was turned over to Cedarburg, WI police. Despite exhausting all efforts, including use of drones and K-9s, the other vehicle occupants were not located.

Highland Park Police are coordinating with the City of Cedarburg, WI, where the crime occurred, to obtain more information including authoritative descriptions of the suspects in the robbery who may have been traveling in the vehicle.

The City will continue to collaborate with Cedarburg, WI police and neighboring authorities as the investigation continues.

Highland Park Police will maintain patrols throughout the community and remain vigilant for suspicious behavior. Residents are urged to call 911 if they observe threatening or suspicious activity. As of May 20, 2025:

- At 10:21 PM: The City is continuing cooperation with Cedarburg authorities regarding their robbery investigation and seeking confirmed descriptions of suspects at large. While images purporting to show suspects are circulating on social media platforms; no confirmed descriptions can be provided yet. More information will be shared publicly as it becomes available.

- At 7:07 PM: Residents were advised about a large police presence in the area of 300 Barberry between Lake-Cook and Clavey near Clavey & Skokie Valley Rd. Highland Park Police responded to a vehicle crash linked to an ATM robbery in Wisconsin involving physical force usage. Four suspects fled from their vehicle on foot; one suspect is in custody and no weapons were discovered. Highland Park Police are searching for three additional suspects assisted by area law enforcement agencies using drones during this operation.
