As summer approaches, the Village is emphasizing the importance of conserving water resources with practical outdoor conservation tips.
According to guidelines provided by the Village, "One inch of rain or watering over a 7–10 day period is sufficient to maintain a healthy lawn." Daily watering is discouraged as it promotes weak, shallow-rooted grass. It''s noted that "Grass beginning to turn brown during dry conditions has become dormant and will revive after a normal rainfall. "
Residents are advised to reset automatic irrigation systems in accordance with the changing Village water status and aim for morning hours when watering lawns to minimize evaporation loss. The use of sprinklers that produce a fine mist is discouraged because "Too much water is lost to the wind and evaporation. "
The Village has implemented an ordinance establishing limitations on water use due to increased demand from lawn, garden, and tree maintenance during summer months. Residents are urged to make conscious efforts towards conserving this critical resource.
