At a recent meeting on June 3, the Barrington 220 Board of Education received an update on the district's $64 million Transform 220 initiative. The majority of projects are currently in the design phase, which will continue through January 2026. Focus groups have been collaborating with team leads—staff members directly connected to each planned project—to identify opportunities, discuss challenges, and share inspirational images. Priorities include accessibility and creating spaces conducive to authentic learning experiences.
Draft design plans for performing arts spaces at Barrington High School (BHS), including a new community auditorium, have been released. Additionally, draft designs for a new 4,000 square foot career pathways addition at BHS are available. This addition will feature spaces for automotive, manufacturing, and aviation pathways, chosen based on student demand and industry trends.
This summer marks the start of construction with new flooring being installed at Arnett C. Lines Elementary School. The district has allocated $640,000 of the $64 million budget for this project. Next spring is expected to see groundbreaking on several projects including the new community auditorium at BHS and renovations of middle school science classrooms and BHS fine arts classrooms.
The Board is expected to approve the sale of bonds for these upcoming projects later this month. By law, funds from these bonds can only be used for necessary infrastructure projects. As a AAA bond-rated school district, Barrington 220 benefits from the lowest competitive interest rates when seeking bond financing.
