Waukegan will temporarily close a section of the Amstutz Highway on Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22, to facilitate the filming of "Ultraviolet" by the production company Enemies LLC.
According to the Waukegan City Council's June 2 meeting agenda, the council approved the closure following a motion by Alderperson Edith Newsome. The decision was passed with an 8-0 vote, with Alderperson Micheal Donnewith absent.
The agenda specifies that the production company requires a section of Amstutz Highway from Greenwood Avenue to Genesee Street to be closed during filming. The production is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, and conclude at 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 22.
The State of Illinois mandates that both the city and the production company assume responsibility and liability for closing the highway.
Waukegan's obligations include directing, protecting, and regulating traffic during the temporary overnight detour. The city will also be liable for any damages resulting from the highway closure. It must ensure all-weather detours are clearly marked and adequately patrolled for traffic redirected from Amstutz Highway.
A copy of the resolution signed by Waukegan's mayor and city clerk has been sent to the permitting office of the Illinois Department of Transportation for authorization of the closure.
