Seventeen students from New Trier, along with their German teachers, recently returned from a two-week educational trip to Germany. The group visited Berlin and stayed with host families in Trier.
In Berlin, the students explored key historical sites such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust memorial, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and remnants of the Berlin Wall including its East Side Gallery. After spending three days in Berlin, they traveled by train to Trier to meet their host families.
During their stay in Trier, New Trier students experienced German daily life by living with local families and attending classes at Auguste-Viktoria Gymnasium. This school has been partnered with New Trier since 2012. Together with their German counterparts, the students explored "old" Trier and its Roman landmarks like Porta Nigra, the Trier Cathedral, and the Amphitheatre.
The group also visited Marksburg Castle and took a boat tour on the Rhine River to Koblenz. Some families took additional trips to nearby regions such as Moselle or cities like Luxembourg and Cologne. Students engaged in various activities including volleyball, mini-golf, swimming, or simply socializing with their partners from Trier.
New Trier students are looking forward to hosting their German friends this fall.
