The Batavia Police Department is collaborating with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies in a statewide traffic safety initiative. The campaign aims to reduce speeding and enhance road safety across Illinois. Until July 31, 2025, motorists should expect increased patrols in Batavia and throughout the state. Officers will focus on enforcing speed limits and identifying dangerous driving behaviors.

"Speeding creates unnecessary risks for all roadway users," said a spokesperson. "It reduces a driver’s ability to react to hazards, navigate curves, or avoid other vehicles or pedestrians." The department's message emphasizes caution: "Slow down and stay safe."

Officers will target areas with frequent speed-related crashes and violations as part of the "Speeding Catches Up with You" campaign. This initiative is funded by federal highway safety dollars managed by IDOT and supports IDOT’s "It’s Not a Game" traffic safety media campaign.
