Lake County Sheriff's Traffic Crash investigators are seeking public assistance in locating a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash with a motorcycle that resulted in the death of a Waukegan man on July 27.
According to a news release, Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle and rider down off the roadway near the intersection of Green Bay Road and Sallmon Avenue in Beach Park at 5:50 a.m. on July 27. The deputies found the 19-year-old motorcycle driver deceased at the scene. Damage consistent with being struck by another vehicle was observed on his Kawasaki sports bike.
The release further states that Sheriff's crash investigators identified the maroon 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck as the offending vehicle. It is believed to be garaged or at a body repair shop. The pickup truck would have front-end damage and damage to the passenger side. Investigators believe the owner removed its license plates, making it possible that it has no plates or plates from another vehicle. Flock safety cameras played a significant role in helping develop leads in the fatal crash.
