Few people have had as much impact on Lake Forest College as Spike Gummere, who served as Dean of Admissions and has been a longtime supporter of the institution. Recently, Spike and his wife Judy made a $5 million bequest to the college. This donation is one of the largest planned gifts in Lake Forest College’s history.

The gift will establish the Francis B. “Spike” Gummere Vice President for Enrollment position, which is currently held by Chris Ellertson. It will also contribute to strengthening the college’s endowment, helping to maintain its student-focused academic approach.

“Admissions is where it all begins,” said Spike Gummere. “Students don’t just walk in—you have to recruit them with care, with personal attention and understanding. And at Lake Forest, we’ve always done that and continue to do so today.”
