The United Township High School District 30 has announced updates for students and staff as the new school year begins. The district, which serves Rock Island and Henry counties, provided information on meal options, transportation, club activities, and sports events.
For lunch, students will have choices including cheeseburgers or spicy chicken sandwiches served on whole grain buns, mixed green salad, oven-baked French fries, pears, and peaches.
Activity buses will resume service starting Monday, August 11. Buses will depart at 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., but only students with a pass from their coach or teacher are permitted to ride.
Mr. W., the band director, requested that drivers avoid parking in the northwest corner of the school during the first quarter to accommodate marching band practices. "The Marching Panthers appreciate your help, and we can't wait to showcase our Panther Pride at our home football games and marching competitions! Thanks for your help!" he said.
Students seeking community service hours can volunteer with the Hampton Youth Committee's Color Run on Saturday, August 16 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will assist by spraying colored powder on participants. Interested students should contact Mr. Davis, College & Career Advisor.
Girls interested in joining tennis this year are invited to an informational meeting after school on Friday in Coach Cahalan's room (226E). Those unable to attend should see Coach Cahalan directly. Tennis practice begins Monday, August 11 after school at the tennis courts.
Golf tryouts are scheduled for Monday, August 11 at Golf Mohr at 3:45 p.m. Students interested in golf should email Coach Gunneman as soon as possible.
Students wishing to join the Cross Country Team can attend a meeting on Monday, August 11 right after school in Room 196V (the wood shop). Those who cannot attend should email Coach Webber for more information.
The Panther Players drama club is holding an informational meeting for its fall play on Wednesday, August 13 at 3:15 p.m. in the auditorium. This year's production features two one-act plays—"A Jury of Her Peers" and "Anybody for Tea"—which explore gender stereotypes and social interactions through drama and comedy. Summaries of each play are posted outside room 224E or on auditorium doors. Panther Players welcomes students interested in acting or technical roles such as set design or backstage crew work.
