Teachers and staff from Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 assembled for their annual Opening Day event in Hinsdale, Illinois, marking the start of the new school year. The gathering brought together district personnel from schools across DuPage and Cook counties, including Clarendon Hills Middle School, Elm Elementary School, Hinsdale Middle School, Madison Elementary School, Monroe Elementary School, Oak Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, The Lane Elementary School, and Walker School. Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia opened the assembly by thanking staff for their commitment as they prepared for another academic year. “The assembly also featured inspiring messages and reviewed the focus on the district's commitment to excellence in education,” Dr. Garcia said.

In preparation for students’ return, teachers had spent two days earlier in the week participating in professional development sessions designed for their specific roles and grade levels. Topics included teaching strategies, technology integration in classrooms, student well-being programs, safety protocols, and approaches to address diverse learning needs.

Hinsdale Community Consolidated School District 181 employs 282 teachers with an average salary of $94,227 before pension contributions; 90 percent are women and 10 percent are men. The district reports that no teacher has more than 10 absences per school year (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education, the district’s student population is composed of approximately 69.8 percent White students, 1.1 percent Black students, 6.8 percent Hispanic students, and 15.4 percent Asian students (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). Before closing the assembly today, Dr. Garcia recognized the Clarendon Hills Little League team’s successful season and reminded staff that the team would play in a World Series tournament on Saturday: “The entire staff made a video cheering for the team and sending them best wishes for their upcoming game.”

District officials expressed optimism about achieving a productive school year ahead.
