United Township High School District 30 has released several updates and announcements for students as the school year progresses.

The district, which serves Rock Island and Henry counties, provides educational services through United Township High School. More information about the district can be found at https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/.

In food service news, students can expect pork tenderloin or dill breaded breast sandwiches on whole grain buns, along with mixed green salad, oven-baked French fries, and assorted fresh fruit in the cafeteria.

For extracurricular activities, students interested in attending a musical event at Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa on November 8 are encouraged to see Mr. Davis, College & Career Advisor. Free tickets are available for students.

School picture days are scheduled this week with Photographic Arts handling photography for both UTEC and remote students at UTEC. Freshman pictures will be taken on Wednesday, August 13; sophomores and juniors on Thursday; and seniors on Friday. Senior photos will be available from 7:30am to 3:00pm for those without a first semester English class. Students are reminded not to wear hats, hoods, or sunglasses during their photo sessions.

Volunteer opportunities include earning community service hours by helping the Hampton Youth Committee with their Color Run event from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16. Volunteers will assist by spraying colored powder on participants as they pass by.

Latinos Unidos is holding its first meeting of the year after school in room 256N on August 20. Mrs. Cantu is available for questions.

Students interested in participating in the fall play can find audition and crew applications on the Panther Players Google Classroom page. The application deadline is Monday at 12:25 p.m., with auditions set for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

According to data from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), United Township High School District 30 employs 96 teachers who earn an average salary of $65,666 before pension contributions; women make up just under half of the teaching staff while men account for slightly more than half. There are no teachers with more than ten absences per school year in the district (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).

The student body is diverse—51.3 percent White, 16 percent Black, 25.5 percent Hispanic, and 2.9 percent Asian according to ISBE statistics (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/). The district reported spending $19,622 per student in fiscal year 2020 for a total expenditure of $33,454,743 (https://www.illinoisreportcard.com/).
