Coal City High School will hold its fifth annual homecoming parade, themed "Coaler Clue," on Friday, September 26. The parade will begin at 2:30 p.m. from the intersection of South Broadway and Spring Road, proceeding north to Carbon Street and ending at the Berst Center on Kankakee Street.
The event will feature the Marching Coaler Bands from both the high school and middle school, as well as various clubs, organizations, and athletic teams. Community businesses and churches are invited to participate for a $100 entry fee. Political parties or candidates are not allowed to enter, and only those of high school age or middle school band members may participate.
All entries must follow the Clue/Murder Mystery theme and adhere to guidelines set by school administration. Inappropriate entries may be removed from the lineup.
Rules for participants include no throwing candy or items from vehicles—these can only be handed out by walkers—and safe driving is required. Once a float or vehicle is in motion, participants must remain onboard; tailgates must be closed for safety, legs cannot dangle outside units, and standing is discouraged.
Participants are responsible for cleaning up any debris left behind on school property or elsewhere. Parade staging begins as early as 7 a.m. in the high school tennis court parking lot at Division Street and Carbon Hill Road. All entries must be ready by 2 p.m., with departure from the high school at 2:15 p.m.
High school groups are responsible for arranging their own vehicles and drivers. Entry forms can be accessed via QR code in the attached graphic and must be submitted by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17.
Participation fees should be sent to Coal City High School Student Council, Allison Peterson (co-sponsor), at 655 W. Division St., Coal City, IL 60416. Checks should be made payable to Coal City High School Student Council. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
The community is encouraged to attend and take part in this annual event.
