The Lake County Division of Transportation (DOT) celebrated the completion of the Rollins Road-Route 83 upgrade project recently at the intersection, an event several local officials attended.
"The quality-of-life improvement of projects such as this are inestimable," Lake County Board member Jeff Werfel said. "The way that I look at it is it provides the ability, most obviously, for our residents and our constituents to spend a heck of a lot less time in traffic, and it means they can spend a lot more time doing things that they would like to do, such as being with their families, friends, etc."
The project is the single largest construction project in the history of the county's DOT and was focused on better regulating traffic at this intersection. In addition to shifting nearby intersections off Rollins Road to allow better flow, the project successfully diverted the Rollins Road/Route 83 intersection to run below the CN railroad tracks.
The celebration capped a two-year effort with an estimated cost of $31 million.
