The city of Lake Forest's Parks and Recreation board met on Tuesday to handle a variety of business.
Athletics Manager Anthony Anaszewicz gave the board a presentation on the city's football program, and Forestry Supervisor Peter Gordon provided an update on the emerald ash borer.
The beetle is native to Asia but has since made its way to several eastern states and southern Canada. It was discovered in Illinois in 2006. Its larvae eat the inner layer of ash trees, making it hard for the trees to take up the water and nutrients they need to survive.
Parks Supervisor Rich Paulsen also presented the board with details on this year's ice skating plans at West Park. The park's pond has been used for public ice skating since 1923. The city has said it will do whatever it can to open the pond to skating as soon as it is safe.
Recreation Superintendent Joe Mobile also presented details about this year's Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
