The Lake Forest City Council will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall.
The council is expected to adopt a $61,167,098 tax levy for the current year. The new levy is 2.33 percent higher overall than the previous year. City officials said the city counts on property taxes for more than half its revenues.
The council also will vote on finalizing a draft resolution to extend term limits for Lake Forest mayors. The resolution would allow for three two-year terms instead of the current two-term limit for mayors and aldermen. In a briefing on the resolution, council member said the extra term is being considered "both for reasons of continuity and of capitalizing on the experience of office holders," who may otherwise have to leave office just when they're becoming adept at their job. If the council passes the resolution, the question will go before voters on March 15.
As the Laurel Avenue development moves on, the council will vote to approve a $106,378.96 payment for environmental consulting. The council said it needed to hire the consultant to ensure it was providing "a clean, development-ready site."
The council also will consider approving $10,000 for repairs to Market Square that would primarily include brick sidewalk repairs. It also would cover landscaping and irrigation improvements.
The Lake Forest City Hall is at 220 E. Deerpath Road.
